Le Roy is one of the oldest names in horology — the French watchmaking house was founded in Paris in 1686 by Julien Le Roy, who became one of the most celebrated clockmakers of the 18th century. The brand continued under various stewardships through the following centuries, producing fine timepieces that carried the Le Roy name into the quartz era. By the late 20th century the marque had faded from active production, but the legacy of the name carries serious weight among those who know the history.

Every now and then you strike gold. Sometimes the gold is literally black — and that’s exactly what happened here.

This Le Roy is just cool. Full stop. The matte black case and riveted bracelet construction give it this industrial, almost tactical energy that you absolutely did not expect from a watch with this much French pedigree. Gold accents at the crown and case edges cut through the blackout just enough to remind you there’s some luxury DNA underneath all that attitude. The white dial with minimal baton indices and a single gold seconds hand sits clean inside the squared case — the contrast between that bright dial and the surrounding black is sharp and intentional.
